Crypto Awards Highlight Excellence in the UK

March 16, 2020

On Wednesday the 11th March, more than a hundred people gathered in Canary Wharf for the Crypto A.M. Awards 2020. Undeterred by the current climate, or perhaps lured by the prestige and lucious setting, the attendees gathered at the Boisdale restaurant for drinks, lunch and the awards ceremony. Hosted by CITY A.M., the London-based free business-focussed newspaper, the inaugural Crypto A.M. Awards focused on some of the best and most innovative people and companies in London and the UK who are working in crypto, blockchain, AI, digital assets and DLT. There were a wide variety of people in attendance, some coming as individuals and some representing companies, but all were involved in the cryptocurrency and blockchain scene in some way.

Arriving to champagne and meeting the other guests, it wasn’t too long before the lunch began, kicked off with a welcoming speech given by the Rt Hon Lord Mayor of London, Alderman William Russell, with accompanying speech from City A.M.'s ‘Crypto Insider’ - James Bowater. The award ceremony proper took place after a delicious three-course Scottish-themed meal. There were twelve categories in all, honouring aspects of the space ranging from service providers to exchanges, and from social impact and sustainability to individual outstanding contributions.

Presenting the awards were a number of companies who also worked in the industry who had sponsored the various categories. This was the capacity in which Blockpass attended, sponsoring the ‘Deployment in Fintech’ award. This particular award was to highlight a new or up-and-coming fintech firm which had shown the greatest entrepreneurial success over the past year. Blockpass’ CMO, Dr. Hans Lombardo was asked to present the award, which had three nominees: AIX, Mode Banking, and ConsenSys Codefi. Dr. Lombardo took to the stage for the announcement of the winners of the category - ConsenSys Codefi.

The complete listing of categories and winners were as follows:

  • Community Enhancement Award – CryptoCompare

  • Service Provider Award – CMS Law

  • Enterprise Blockchain Award – Cygnetise

  • UX/UI Award – Zerion

  • Educational Platform Award – Cointelligence

  • Social Impact & Sustainability Award – Electroneum

  • Payment Service Provider Award – Bitstamp

  • Digital Asset Custodian Award – Gemini Trust

  • Incubator / VC Award – Outlier Ventures

  • Crypto Exchange Platform Award – Coinpass

  • Deployment in Fintech Award – ConsenSys Codefi

  • Outstanding Industry Contribution Award – Marta Piekarska-Geater, Hyperledger

Following the award ceremony, the crowd gathered in the bar below the restaurant area to congratulate the winners and to network, meeting many like-minded individuals to discuss the nuances of their work, products or services.

Overall, the event was highly enjoyable and proved to be a great way to socialise and interact with the companies and people pioneering excellence in the cryptocurrency, blockchain and other related industries. All those in attendance will be looking forward to the second Crypto A.M. Awards next year!
